Do I need to be a fast swimmer to join?
A swimmer is typically ready for a competitive swim team when they can swim each stroke independently, follow coach instructions, and enjoy being in the water. Please visit our tryouts page for minimum tryout requirements.

How do I join SCSC?
Families must first schedule a tryout. Coaches will assess skill level and recommend the appropriate training group.

When are SCSC practices?
Practice frequency depends on the swimmer's age and training group, most practices are held year-round Monday-Friday.

Does SCSC teach swimmers to swim or offer swim lessons?
No. SCSC is not a swim lessons/learn-to-swim program. Swimmers must already be proficient in the water.

What do you recommend my swimmer do to become swim team ready?
SCSC offers Pre-Swim Team Clinics throughout the year. Pre-Swim Team Clinics are an opportunity for new swimmers to learn what it feels like to be on a swim team. During this clinic swimmers will work on stroke mechanics and technique, learn basic drills, work on appropriate skills for the age/level of the swimmer, meet coaches, make new friends and have fun at the same time. At the conclusion of the clinic, team-ready swimmers will receive a SCSC training group placement for those interested in swimming year-round.

Does my child have to attend every practice?
No. While consistent attendance is encouraged for improvement, coaches understand that swimmers have school, family, and other activities. Attendance requirements will vary by training group.

Does my child have to compete in swim meets?
Yes. All SCSC swimmers are required to participate in swim meets throughout the year. Meet participation requirements will vary by training group.

What swim meets does SCSC attend?
SCSC swimmers compete in home meets, and local, regional, and championship-level meets sanctioned by USA Swimming. Meet participation is required for all swimmers.
